The record books and bank statements for People Helping People go back to October 1987, but founder Marcella Garner and other great women were helping the children of the Republic community long before that. A dream that began at a kitchen table and then moved to the local VFW and later to “the barn” on Hampton Street, is alive and well at People Helping People’s current location on Pine Street. Marcie’s vision that no child be hungry, without clothes, or without Christmas gifts has created a legacy of giving across the area. Our building is named “Marcie’s Place” in homage of our founder. Marcella’s motto was “it’s all about the children,” and we still honor that motto today.
